India has made significant progress in improving health outcomes over the past few decades, but there is still much work to be done. According to the latest data available from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India:

Maternal and Child Health:

  • The maternal mortality ratio (MMR) in India was estimated at 113 per 100,000 live births in 2016.
  • The under-five mortality rate (U5MR) was estimated at 37 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2020

Infectious Diseases

  • India has made significant progress in controlling infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria, and HIV/AIDS, but these diseases still pose significant health challenges in the country.
  • In 2020, there were an estimated 2.4 million new cases of tuberculosis in India, accounting for 27% of the global burden of the disease.
  • Malaria also remains a major health challenge in India, with an estimated 5.6 million cases in 2019.

Non-communicable Diseases

  • Non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer are becoming increasingly common in India due to changing lifestyles and an aging population.
  • In 2016, non-communicable diseases accounted for an estimated 61% of all deaths in India.
  • India has the highest number of diabetes cases in the world, with an estimated 77 million adults living with the disease in 2019.

Health Infrastructure

  • Despite significant progress in improving health outcomes, India still faces challenges in terms of health infrastructure and access to quality healthcare.
  • According to the World Health Organization, India had just 0.8 hospital beds per 1,000 people in 2019, compared to a global average of 2.7 beds per 1,000 people.
  • India also has a shortage of healthcare providers, with just 0.7 doctors per 1,000 people and 1.5 nurses and midwives per 1,000 people in 2018.

Overall, there is a great need for continued investment in healthcare in India to improve health outcomes and ensure that all people have access to quality healthcare services. Your fundraising efforts can make a significant difference in improving the health and well-being of people in India.
